My boy has got a really swollen sheath, presumably from a fly bite as it came up quite suddenly on Monday afternoon. It doesn't seem to be painful although he's not too keen on me prodding at it - not that he ever is.
I gave him Piriton but yesterday it was bigger. I phoned the Vet who sent out Danilon & said that they'd see him in a couple of days if it hadn't subsided & he might need steroids. I'm slightly concerned about that as he is a tad porky & I don't want him coming down with laminitis. Is there anything else I can do for him? He's out 24/7 with his mate so moving around.

Sure its a fly bite? My Shetland had similar. Needed a clean. Couple of days later all good again. Hope you get sorted quickly.

My gelding had this once and it subsided in a couple of days, pretty sure it was fly bites. I use Nettex summer freedom round the underneath now to stop him getting bitten.

My oldie used to get this a lot and bute took the swelling down. He certainly became more susceptible to it swelling up after fly bites as he got older

It's gone down a bit today & he did let me have a bit of a rummage! Didn't find any nasties. Thank you for your replies- will get some Nettex cream. Use Hedgewitch & Flypor but it just gets washed off at the mo.
