My mare has started booting the rear and side of her stable walls... This is a recent thing which has got worse in the last few weeks.

She now has rubber matting up on the walls to cushion the blow. She has a likit, tounge twister and has a turnip hung in her stable to keep her amused, she always has hay in net.

There doesnt seem to be any pattern as to when she does it, the mare next to her is a very quiet Friesian, but my mare kicks whether her neighbour is in or out. I've had my mares back shoes taken off, firstly because she doesn't do much road work but also because of the damage she was causing to the stable walls...

Has anyone else known a horse to kick so much and do you have any ideas how to stop it, or at least reduce it?

She's not got feather mites has she? Horses will stamp/ kick because they are very itchy. If she is a hairy beast this may be a possibility. Does she stamp when in the field?

I keep her legs well clipped because she is a hairy beast... but she has been treated with mite powder twice in the last 8 weeks or so, she doesn't seem to itch, just knocks hell out of the wall :(

Yep I agree with the mites suggestions. This is exactly what my lad did before he had the injections. Unfortunately he seems to need them several times a year but it does work and I haven't found anything else that stops him doing it. Mine was doing it to the point where he had scabs on his hocks from hitting a concrete breeze block wall the itching was driving him that mad. :( horrible things mites.

I've tried Frontline and Dectomax. Frontline is expensive & doesn't work that well. I think 2 injections 2 weeks apart, then using pig oil & sulphur works the best.
