Just wondering if anyone has used/uses boots, rather than has their horse shod? And what are your opinions on them.

Before anyone says 'Why don't you just get your horse shod if he can't be barefoot', i welcome you to come and try, but currently farrier's won't! due to him being a little nervy and anti-male (But we're working on it! :) ) and i'm unable to find a local female farrier who does shoes! Boots have been suggested by the farrier as a short term solution.

What do you think? :D

Boots that fit are very good. There are lots of styles to choose from. You may need to get someone to help you decide which brand will suit your horse best.

But I would also ask if the horse really needed boots. Photos would be great.

Yeah of course! Wy not? It makes perfect sense to me and my friends.

A pair of boots set you back £80 - £120 depending what you go for. They last a pretty long time and only used if needed. That's one or two shoeings depending on what you pay for a set.

Perfect for roads, off roads, wherever really and you don't need them for showing on grass or surfaces.

Unless you compete where they don't allow hoof boots, then shoeing is not cost effective nor is it the healthiest option for feet so, as an average rider doing average things, its got to be boots!

I use Gloves on my TB and Haflinger when I need them (usually spring grass and for hunting the haffy)
