Horse Box Spec - outside this time

Firstly thanks to everyone whom replied to my post yesterday about what was necessary in a horse box and what where "wants".

So have agreed with 'other half the priority of the "inside box" now the difficult bit - I have wanted a horse box all my adult life (and i am way past having a foal age (lol)) now I want a fantastic paint job and all the skirts and wind deflectors. Dad and 'other half want me to "keep it simple" for the first year - as they reckon i will scratch it getting up tight country lanes so ruining the paint job, and will manage to damage the skirts (and waste of weight) and the wind deflector is a waste of money and weight.

Do i do a mega stropp!! and sulk till i get a divorce or my own way or just be thankful I have two people doing their sensible best for me?

Is peer pressure to have "the look" more important than an fantastic horse area and an almost brand new truck ?

(Not good at this "i want" buisness as i have never been allowed to do it before so still have a conscience)
 
I would listen to them. I learnt this with my new car. Alloys are messed up

Just my opinion but you will damage the paint - it's unavoidable unless the police clear the roads every time you go out of other traffic pushing you into hedges so I would say have something nice but not extravagent (ie not metallic, not many swirls, keep it simple!) If the skirts have lockers they are useful, I can never clean my wind deflector properly so it gathers mould (oops). Have fun and pics please when you have chosen.
 
I can understand that you have wanted one for a long time & you want a tasty paint job but I think they are right. A really nice spray job with patterns & swirls etc cab cost thousands. I have a Tristar Horsebox & it is one of the stick sided lorrys. The frame is painted but the panels are aluminium & have been left unpainted. This was done so that the scrapes & scratches you get through normal use don't show up so badly.

No matter how careful you are you will always catch the sides on branches overhanging from the side of roads & your lovely paint job will soon be ruined. There is also the old saying :- "It doesn't matter what the horsebox looks like, it's what comes out of it that matters".......Good Luck with whatever you decide.
 
I wanted a lovely wagon too but the cost was going up and up so I decided against metalic paint and picked my colour. It was supposed to be silver but my friend describes it as undercoat grey. Its main plus point is it doesnt show the scratches at all, which you will get no matter how careful you are from trees, bushes etc. Im pleased with my choice now as it looks as good as when I picked it up 12 mths ago, ok a little boring! I have been meaning to get some swirls, decals put on it but just cant decide what to have. I want something tasteful and not over the top though. If you find some on the internet, please let me know!
All I can say is dark colours do show the scratches more oh and I would stamp my feet to get skirts and a wind thingy. Mine has them and they do look much better.
 
Wind thing if it does cut fuel costs (and if you want it!). Skirts if have lockers (very useful things!). Paint job - it will get scratched

Mine was cream and blue - from a distance it looked okay....
 
Our new one's almost ready. We've had it custom built around Dolly's dimensions (17.3hh 3/4shire).

Ours has the wind deflector thing rather than a luton & ours has a door to it from the living which means extra storage at limited cost.

We've got 2external tack lockers that both go into the living, but double up as an internal bench seat (on off side) and sink/cooker unit (near side).

We've gone for the cheap paint job, I would love a metalic one, but other things such as posh loo/ cut through/ shower for horse were more important to me.
