Hi, im thinking of buying a horse box, I passed my driving test in 2003, so am I right in thinking I can buy anything up to 3 tons?
Also are there companys or people who can come out and inspect it before I buy as I have no idea what to look for so I dont end up with an old heap thats about to breakdown any minute!
I can only afford upto about £5k.
Thanks.

Yes you can drive up to 3.5 tons.

There are two people that advertise in Horse and Hounds that will inspect horseboxes and check bot the mechanics and the container.

Be aware that 3.5 tons is the total weight limit that you are allowed to drive.

You need to first check the weight of the vehicle you intend buying (don't trust what te seller says) to ensure that it weighs no more than 2.5 tons so that you have a pay load of 1 ton which would be sufficient to carry one horse, tack, driver, passengers, water, hay net etc. The weight of te vehicle can be checked at a Public Weigh Bridge.

Thanks for that, I only want a little box to take my 15.2hh and with day living, so hopefully I should be ok on the weights but I will get that checked before I buy.
