obviously it varies greatly, but what would a rough estimate for tax and insurance (particularly this, im 21, have one years no claims) be on a 3.5 tonne horse box, of around 15 years of age?
Road Tax will be the same as a car, just done our 7.5 tonne diesel and it was £90 for six months.
Insurance will be a lot more- 300 -400 for older drivers with max NCD to include breakdown and get horses home cover.
You may have to shop around for an Under 25 driver.
When I got my 3.5tonne lorry I insured with NFU who the horses are with. I pay about £350 a year including full breakdown cover. At the time of insuring it I asked for a quote to add a 22 year old driver and they quoted me an additional £280! I didn't do it at the time but a few weeks later I needed to add her for a day and they checked and for an additional £30 made it any driver over 25 with her as a named driver for the rest of the year! Renewal has just come through at £376 including the young driver.
I've just renewed mine through Anthony Evans, £250 fully comp with full breakdown cover for 7.5 tonne with me and a named friend on it, but we are both over 25.
