Thoughts anyone?
Not a huge problem where I live but I am aware of cases where it is. Have had a few incidents when I ride on higher ground, but nothing to serious. Interesting how they saw her evidence as unreliable- you would think having taken a case to that level she would have had film/photo evidence.

If you're going to bring a case to court it needs to be absolutely watertight. How she ever thought she'd win on the evidence provided is beyond me.

Maybe she should just move house instead.

I would love to see her radar altimeter that was able to tell her when these aircraft were below 150 feet. Hope she gets stuck with the legal costs for this waste of taxpayers' money!

We are in a training area on Dartmoor and the activities tend to come in bursts of lots of jets, then none.
Our horses soon get used to it , the only things they really don't seem to like are the helicopters with rotors front and back. they make a rather horrible noise.
They do actually come incredibly low on occasions, I've seen holidaymakers duck their heads under the water of the jacuzzi in terror, so she's probably right that her grandson jumped, but to claim compensation isn't really on unless they cause actual injury.
I have rung the helpline to have a moan a few times over the years, but that's when you can see the pilot's expressions they were flying that low, and they made the horses run about in fright. Since one of my son's became a pilot, I understand better what they are doing and why.

My ex-boyfriend was an amateur pilot and once won a competition at a country show to guess how high a plane was flying over a designated point. He always said that people who do not fly always wildly underestimate how high a plane is. His guess was significantly higher that any of the others.

Yes, people do generally think they are much lower than they actually are. I am actually relieved this person lost her case.

Having an RAF training base in the vicinity we frequently have low flying aircraft - these affect people far more than horses.

I have never had a horse bat an eyelid and passing jets, when grazing they will not even lift their heads. The small air ambulance helicopter also gets no response but the large helicopters do get a raised head but no great alarm. I would love to say that this is because my horses are remarkably well behaved but I am afraid this tends to be the norm.

It is more of a rider problem - rider sees the jet/helicopter, tenses/stresses, horse takes the piss. I agree this is not always the case, but in most cases it is.

If you do have low flying helicopters in your area always wear a high viz jacket so the pilot can see you and avoid flying too low over you.

we tend to get them in fits and starts as they fly over us to do the sea training. never had a problem, the jets......which make me duck! horses do nothing about. I think by the time they think about it jet has disappeared!

I live in a military training area, we have helecopters including chinooks go over that appear to just skim the roof of our house, they fly daily over my horses fields very low, even the new foals barely lift their heads at them once they have seen them once or twice.
I hate how people try and sue for anything these days.
