Horse can open trailer door!!

Just in case anyone was wondering about how clever our horses can be when we don't want them to be .... we had to abort a showing outing yesterday because thank goodness we discovered that Haffie Pony can open the groom's door from the inside by pulling the lever up with her lips , body and haynet .. whatever comes to hoof really ... before we left the yard.

Could have been scary:eek: but I've never needed to lock the groom's door before and never heard of a horse that could do that (my trailer was second hand so no keys). She was tied up fairly short next to her net but always loosens the leadrope and I don't like to travel one on the wrong side. I rang and ordered a new lock barrel today they had never heard of it either:confused:
 
Ah yes my cob does this - open the jockey door from the inside and then waves hello on the motorway. First time I thought I hadn't closed door properly. Second time I didn't know what to think. Third time was on the yard in stationary vehicle with me sitting in the other partition to watch. We too have an external lock now! I'm amazed my heart didn't just stop when I saw the door swing the first time tbh ... Uuuuugh
 
Yes it is so scary even in the yard at slow speed . It went a bit like this Hubby ( not that horsey was driving) says "I can see Ellie". "Yes" says I "it's cute that we can see her thru the front window" (Bateson Ascot) "No" says Hubby "I can really see her" "Jesus wept" says I as I jump out of the car and see her head fully out the door!!!:eek:

very clever horses indeed...may be u should ask them if they want to do some GCSEs...surely they will get some good grades...:eek:

You can get trailer ties that don't come undone like ropes, I'd get two and cross tie.

Thanks for this:) It says they have a panic release , so hopefully they come loose if the horse freaks out?

Yes too bright and i'd rather this had been chanelled in competition not in the trailer:D
