Horse care book for young first time owner

Can anyone recommend a book that covers all aspects of horse care, from buying the horse, to stable management, feeding and first aid, which would be suitable for a 13 year old getting their first horse? Don't worry, the book won't be the only guidance they get Just looking for something that will give a rounded view on horse ownership.

The BHS "Complete Horse &Pony Care" book (Collins) is nice, lots of info, lots of pictures..

I second the BHS book, I'm giving mine to a friend to borrow so she can get a better idea!

My vote would be for the Pony Club manual of Horsemanship - we call it the "bible" and I still delve into it occasionally after 50 years of horse ownership!

When I was a kid my parents bought me a FAB book called "annie owns a pony"

It was a cartoon style book and I remember that I loved it! Her pony was called Daisy and I remember relating very well to the humour. It will b an older book now though so parts may be out dated but I bet any pony mad kid would still love it!

Thank you very much for your suggestions. It's difficult to tell how good a book's going to be by looking at it on Amazon, good to hear some recomendations for ones I've been looking at.
