Ever since I was a little girl I have always dreamed of arriving at my wedding in a gorgeous horse drawn carriage. Well the time has come and I'm getting married next May so I have naturally been looking at horse drawn carriage companies :D

I have to say that I have been shocked at the prices some of these companies have been quoting me. I will be travelling from my grandparents house to the church up the road and then on to the reception venue the next village over. The total journey is just over 3 miles but some of these companies have quoted nearly £2000!!!!

I was wondering whether anyone else has had a horse and carriage at their wedding and whether they can recommend anyone who isn't quite so extreme in pricing. Any help would be very much appreciated :)

Someone in our village use to do weddings but apparently the insurance is really costing due to litigation etc

They told me despite telling people not to allow their children near the back end people still do, they have had kids walking under the horses etc

So no surprse they did it for years and gave up recently. But thats probably why its expensive

It is a lot though!

Give Haydn Webb a call - pm me for his number or any questions or google Haydn Webb Carriages - he's based in Swallowfield, I groom for him and I think he roughly charges £700. Though you'd have to make sure your intended journey route is not too hilly!!! He's a fantastic man and has been doing weddings for many many years. He has chestnut Gelderlanders, beautiful carriage horses.

£2000 is way over the top. Two local companies to me do this and one charges £600 the other £300. They charge extra for diesel if they have to travel very far.

At this rate Tallyho I may well be taking a cab

Well, you know what I mean... a fancy one :D

Do hope you find what you are looking for at a much more down to earth price for your special day oh and CONGRATULATIONS!!!! :):):):).

Just because it's a wedding, people think they can charge the earth!

Place I used to work for charged £650 for funerals and that was frequently 10 miles or more of driving plus a lot of hanging about and a lot of travelling in the lorry (at least 70 miles each way and frequently much further). I still remember how cold I used to get in winter brrrrr. It was often 4am starts with 7pm finishes - there's where your money goes. Weddings would be altogether nicer! I didn't do any of the finance, just drove the horses / lorry / cleaned equipment / mucked out etc etc.

For £2k you could buy a Horse instead :-). That price is a total rip off.

I would say max £700 for a pair in all honesty.

Bloody hell that's expensive I'm getting married I'n July and having 2 White horses
And that is from my house
,to church and wait then to reception 450.00

I've just got married and had quotes varying from £600 to £800, for 2 horses. It was the best thing, I loved having the horses there and the carriage was stunning!

I'm sure we could find a fancy cab out there :)

Thank you :D very excited. Just hope I can find something a bit more reasonable in price. Everyone seems to bump their prices up when you mention you want it for a wedding.
