Last night my horse got his hind shoe caught on his haynet. It is a small holed haylage net, correctly tied and not dangling but he must have rolled or got cast and when owner fed this morning he was up but with his hind leg pulled out behind him in a hell of a state, shaking, sweated heaps etc. The net had got caught on the heel of his shoe but despite his frantic efforts, neither the shoe or the net had given way. he really was in shock and non weight bearing which made my heart stop. Vet came and checked over and nothing immediately obvious but is hopping lame and fetlock is very very swollen on the suspended leg. He is obvously very sore and stiff and was given pain killers intravenously and then allowed to be turned out in a small area when had calmed and settled etc and though hes is now chilled, there is a lot of selling. Am obviously very concerned and he will be seeing the vet again tomorrow and/or going in for further tests and checks on Wednesday morning if needed. Put this post up to see if anyone has had similar and also so people see the dangers of nets, even when correctly used.... Am so worried as he did a tendon on this leg 2 years ago and the swelling is worse than it was when he did that injury.
