Bud had a bit of a snotty nose on sunday morning, quite thick yellowy snot out of one nostril, not much. He xc schooled no problem that day. Monday morning just looked like bit of dry snot both nostrils. Yesterday but of yellow snot. This morning Bit of dry snot both, tiny bit yellow - took him to gallops and he snort blew/sneezed quite abit more thasn usual and on cool down coughed couple times. When got back stables thin nasal discharge both nostrils whitey colour.

Any ideas???? Has he got a cold??? He is perky and normal in himself, but should i get vet out or will it run its course or can i pick something up from local shop??

Thanks

Sounds like a bit of a cold.

If it were me, I'd give him a week off to see if it runs it's course and go from there.

I wouldnt worry to much. My horse has had a cough for the last week and some white nasal discharge, he's been himself and eating fine. The cough and nasal discharge have now cleared up as quickly as it arrived! We have had a bit of a virus going round our yard, coughs, runny nose, some of them not eating - Vet was out for a colic the other week and said not to worry, it's just a virus doing the rounds.

If he eating fine and good in himself, then don't worry.

Perhaps put all hay on floor and spray/soak them (this is what I did for Jack), I also gave him some benylin, suringed it down him (although I think he would have licked it out the bowl). Vet said this was fine.

He's all OK now. Hope yours feels better soon!

Keep him warm even when the sun is shining and feed him well, warm beet/mash is nice for them in the evening.

thats reassuring, i will give him lots TLC.

he has haylage but we did open new bale other day that wasn't as nice as others so that could have aggrevated a cough.
plenty of time out in field wrapped up warm and will keep an eye on him!

thank you

check his temperature, if ok then maybe check quality of hay and are you soaking feeds? My friends mare gets this if she has a not so good batch of hay.
