Right, Bean is being sent back from loan. My question is what do I need to do when I pick her up?

I was thinking that she needs to be trotted up, check her for any new lumps/bumps etc. Anything else? And if she is in any worse condition that what I left her in, what do I do? (I don't think she will be, but just in case)

:( This couldn't have come at a much worse time but oh well. :/

No idea, my mare got delivered back to me by transport company.

TBH, there's really not a lot you can do, other than air your views across if there's anything majorly wrong.
ETA -and obv check everything comes back that she went with :)

Ditto check you've got all your equipment back off your inventory. Ask when she was last shod, wormed etc.

Is this the horse that had an injury and is a light hack only? How come she's coming back off loan? I also had a horse come back to me unexpectedly nearly 2 years ago which was also extremely bad timing, as I had nowhere for her to go except my aunt's yard, I didn't really expect to ever have her back but she had injured her tendon on loan.

check what your contract says and take a copy with you.

If anything is not as it should be write down details sign it and get your loaner to sign too. Include any agreed action.

Make sure you get her passport and details of any vaccinations/worming etc.

when we returned one that we had loaned for 3 years ,it was a case of returning all stuff she came with plus we left lots of rugs that we had bought.we also sent letter with last dates for farrier, worming etc and feed as we had added supplements.we had a really good relationship with the loaners and had been in regular contact.they gave her a once over but it was obvious she was well cared for.i would just have a general chat unless you are suspicious or concerned over reasons for returning her.have they told you why.

a loan contract should be enforceable if it was properly drafted and signed. The problem is proving the breach and whether it is worth persuing if there is a breach. Pm me if you want.

If there is a problem or issue then get her photographed and checked out by a vet. Terms of Loan Contracts can normally only be enforced if they where checked out by a specialist equine solictor prior to being signed and dated by both parties concerned.

Take photos of her at the yard, and make sure it is identifiable, even if you have to do it carefully (can someone distract the loanee?) if it is that sort of problem. Otherwise if you leave it until she is home there is no proof.

Good idea to get the dates of last shoeing, worming, etc. written down. Make sure you have all the documents before you leave - I will send it in the post isn't really good enough, you will probably never get them.
