Da only thing i can think it is that i feed her some hay dry mixed with her haylage at night to stop her goin loopy with too much haylage is it possible she could have an allergy to hay even though i feed her it every day and she only coughs a few times?? any thoughts would be great for a fi

What surface has the arena got? Could it be that, as she seems to get it when you have lessons? Or have you had her checked for broken wind?

Hope she is okay, and welcome to the forum.

Avoiding the dust in the winter is basically mission impossible and some horses can be really sensitive to it. My boy used to cough in the winter regardless of which bedding or forage he was on (tried all), so he lives out now and never develops a cough and his spring/summer 'allergies' have gone too.

Soaking the hay will help a lot, you might find it is that aggravating it due to the dust content.
