:confused:My horse has just been diagnosed with ringbone in O/S fore. Only lame in trot! Does anyone have any suggestions with regards treatment / ointments etc. He is on 2 weeks box rest with Bute and then we will see....... Thx:confused:

Yes my horse had severe high and low ringbone in a hind leg, he was operated on, he had arthrodesis of the pastern. It's now been a year and a half since the op and he is sound, can jump, do whatever I want him to do and completed 20mile sponsored ride at Newmarket including the gallops on Sunday! I think the outcome isn't always as good on a front leg tho. If you have any questions let me know.

Hi there,

My eventer was recently diagnosed with ringbone (near fore). He has had steroids injected into the joint, a course of cartrophen and is now on synnequin (v expensive suppliment!).

Are you already feeding a suppliment? If not, I have heard riaflex is very good..and isnt as expensive as synnequin. It's also important to keep them moving...I walked mine for 2 weeks, introducing some trot in the third week and then canter on good ground the week after.

He didnt go lame as such but developed an aversion to jumping and failed flexion tests...I have yet to discover if his treatments have been a success but my vet is happy with him and we are planning on getting back into competition soon.

You hear so many sad tales about this condition....but there is some good stuff as well so don't lose heart. :) Best of luck
