I would go with kissing spine purely as my horse is difficult with rugging and saddling when her ks is playing up. She is clear of ulcers which were checked when this first started so I know this isn't a factor. X-rays and injecting need to occur every two years so you may want to ask the question of your vet

Thank you for the information. I do have a sneaking suspicion something might be going on with his back, even if its low grade which is then causing the ulcers to reoccur etc, so definitely having his back x-rayed.
Do you find the injections manage the kissing spines and keeps them comfortable? x

In my opinion and experience viewing injections as a one off opportunity to rehab correctly, which generally means postural, is the way to go. Injecting every two years isn't as bad as some, but if you really read up on postural work, lifting the thoracic sling, THIS gets to the root cause and makes the whole horses body more functional. If this isn't improved essentially you're reinjuring the site going forwards as the cause hasn't been sorted. Look up top line syndrome, one way of looking at several linked issues, that is proposing to be more useful than seeing each issue as individual, or one causing another.

Hi all,
Just thought I would update everyone after you all being so helpful!
My horse was scoped and had back x-rays yesterday to check all was ok.
He scoped perfectly clear (literally the perfect stomach - phew!) and his back x-rays were good,

Vet and myself thinks possibly a bit of hindgut inflammation due to spring grass and recent course of antibiotics for another injury, so I have started him on Max Gut Health for his hindgut to see if that helps (EquiShure is plan B!). Vet and myself also think pain memory is still prudent so will continue to work on positive reinforcement - think we've just had a minor setback as he was doing so well.

I am so relieved with yesterday's outcome and reassured that I know all is well.
Thanks for your advice all - happy Bank Holiday weekend :)

I am OCD in my management with him

Comment not meant to offend but, please don't refer to OCD like this! Sorry to nitpick just really grinds my gears.

Ulcers are usually secondary to pain somewhere in the body (KS and hind limb lameness seem to be common ) so I suspect that the actual reason for the ulcers hasn't been resolved.
Given that he's an x-racer I'd be highly suspicious of kissing spine.
I wouldn't certainly have the vet back ,.look into x-raying the back and doing a lameness work up.

I would agree with this.

Firstly I actually do have mild OCD myself so the comment was definitely not meant to offend.
secondly, Thankyou but as above he scoped perfectly clear and his back X-rays were good. So glad I got him checked though
