horse disposal/meatmen

The Yorkshire Pet Crematorium are very good and efficient and although West Yorkshire may well travel to you. Google them for the number, they will charge.

Our vet arranged for out mare to be disposed off (age 8 from colic). The company did the dead and tock her away straight away. She went to the lions at the local safari park which we were very happy about (I know to some this fact may be strange but to use it gave us comfort that she helped keep another animal alive)

Thanks guys this may upset a few people I don't want to be there I want someone to take her and destroy her I've just lost my dog last week and to have my horse put to sleep week after is too much for me x

Try phoning the local hunt, if they don't take animals they will know someone who will.

You will have to meet them to pay, if nothing else, and to make sure they have the right horse, but then you can leave.

I was not there for our mare either. A friend took her down the field to the gate and held her for us as we could not bear to watch. Personally I would rather it was done in an environment the horse knows so there is less stress for the horse, but at the end of the day you have to do what's right for you. I would not judge anyone for there own choices on this, it's very personal and every circumstance is different.

You need to do what is right for you as well as her.
The horse doesn't know what is about to happen.
What an awful start to your new year.
Thinking of you.

Thanks for your messages there is someone but she's works full time is on holiday in 2 weeks so that is an option I didn't think they still gave you cash for your horse my mare has an aggressive tumour I'd rather her be shot then injection that's why I asked

Look up DeMulders - they used to be over Askern/Doncaster way and used to cull and remove...we knew them as the glue factory..and it was a long time ago..

I would use your local hunt, they are usually very efficient and professional - you won't need to be there. Last time I needed to do this it cost £80 for pts and disposal. Sounds like you are having a tough time x

Please don't let someone take her away, have the deed done at your premises. Otherwise you don't know what will happen to her. The vet will pts for you and usually they know who would collect afterwards. Sorry you are having a bad time

Neil Cartwright is Doncaster based - he'll put the horse down on your premises and then take her away. Not sure about the number - I think it's 01302 852705.

Please get in touch with the BHS friends at the end. I second the post about not letting her be taken away, apart from not knowing what has happened to her, it is also far less stressful for her to be PTS at home. Sorry you are in this awful situation. x

Last January/feb I lost my old dog aged 13 and my horse (followed by another horse in the spring) so I understand how your feeling.
I called the hunt for the first one as he disliked sedation and fought it so the gun was the better option for him. The guys were extremely professional and helpful. I didn't stay. He was a horse who didn't need me and was happy to be handled by others.
So sorry xxx

Completely agree - they are very good and really sympathetic people, they will collect from S Yorks.

You could try Coopers in Huddersfield. Steph has always been lovely but has always collected ours when they have already gone, although I'm pretty sure they have a licence to PTS.
Sorry I don't have a number but I think you will find them if you google.

There is a service in Shelly area. It could be the Yorkshire Pet or something similar. Either that or contact your vet, they must have details of people they trust. Take care, I'm in your area, PM if you need to talk.

Please, please don't let them take her away, have it done on site where she is comfortable with her surroundings. You don't need to be there, get the hunt in and they'll hold her - you can walk away. It's the final kindness you can do for her and you will feel better for having done right by her.

Steph is the Yorks Equine Crematorium. She will come out to you and so long as you make sure that she has the right horse, she prefers to do the deed without the owner present ( some people get very upset). You will need to pay her at the time. She and her staff are very professional, excellent with the horses, efficient and knowledgeable. You will be able to find the number on the website. Not all hunts have a collection service, unfortunately.

used them a year ago ,excellent to deal with ,ultra professional, punctual, and sensible prices.

OP, if you need someone to stay with your mare while this is done then I can travel up and help. It's not a problem, as long as you could arrange it for the weekend. I hate for anyone to feel they have to send the horse away because there is nobody there to support.

Seriously, the driving's no bother. Just say.
