Well it's confirmed, Tartine is P/n PSSM type 1 :(

I'm waiting for the vet to send me the recommended diet from the university lab where they do the genetic testing (should be interesting to see what they recommend!)

I won't get the results of the hormone panel for another 2.5 weeks, and that could apparently add a whole other dimension to the PSSM if there is a significant disorder there too.

Poor girly, you would never think she is uncomfortable as she is never grumpy or mareish in any way.

Still, now I know for certain, and I can go forward from today.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's under diagnosed in the breed sadly. Share the diet when you get it - it's been trial & error with mine and I find it interesting to see what other people recommend.

Odd though it sounds my diagnosis was a relief. Firstly because it confirmed I wasn't imagining problems and secondly it gave me something definitive that I could work with. I turned into a Google addict.....

I think it's under diagnosed in all horses personally which is why I mentioned it when you first noted her symptoms. PSSM is a varied and wide ranging disease when it comes to symptoms. I've correctly "diagnosed" many on this forum since I learned about it!

Here is my PSSM 1 mare who I've been managing mostly successfully for nearly 2 years now. She tied up catastrophically 5 weeks after I bought her and was then diagnosed with something I had never heard of. However she has not tied up again.

As you can see, there's nothing to see other than she's blinking fantastic. It's taken a lot to get to this stage (mostly not down to the PSSM but rather a saddle issue however I didn't know that at the time!). She's managed carefully but that is just routine now.

I'm taking her on a two day residential camp next week - neither of us are actually going to reside, nor eat any of their food (doing a gluten free exclusion diet myself) and since she's barefoot, treeless and wears a micklem I can imagine they are expecting a complete whacko lol. I'm happy tho so I don't care.
