Archie has been terribly lame behind for almost a week. Started last week when he went beserk when I mounted him, and his muscle adjacent to his tail was very hot, bulgy and had a strong pulse. I rang the vet and described it to him. He said it sounded like it might be a sprained muscle and to box rest him for a good few days. Well that was 5 days ago and got him out today and he is even worse. He is also having nosebleeds. Other than that he seems happy enough, eating and stools normal.

Vet is coming in an hour, so I will update then, but does anyone have any idea what this might be? Never come across anything like this in 20 years of owning horses and Im a little spooked!

I wonder if it could be some form of Azoturia, it seems odd that he's had nosebleeds too  Hopefully the vet will be able to shed some light.

Hmm, nothing too serious I don't think / hope. Vet took bloods just to double check there is no muscle damage, but still thinks he has pulled a muscle quite badly.

Nosebleeds were because the stupid horse has bashed his head open on the stable door and vet put nosebleeds down to cranial trauma!

Fingers crossed its nothing to major!!
Thanks guys
