Horse droppings on the road!

I was astonished this week because somebody complained that my mare was making a mess on the country lane near her field. I explained that the horse tends to produce droppings very shortly after setting off on a hack so it's inevitably going to happen on this lane. The dung tends to get flattened by car wheels so it isn't around for long, but the complainant said that the wheels miss the stuff that is in the middle of the lane. So I promised to try and persuade my horse to do her business on the side of the road in future. Do people think there is a market for horse nappies?

I read in the magazine I think N army officerthat said when confronted with a similar comment from a member of the public 'it only constitutes a public health hazard if consumed in large quantities' I want to use this line!

the carriage horses in Bath have to wear bags to poo in because the posh Bathonians don't want poop on their roads, of course the millions of rats going through all their posh rubbish is fine;)
I would present her with a bucket and shovel and tell her to help herself to the free compost;):D

I carry bin liners in my pocket and if Brooke does a whoopsie, i jump off, put it in the bag and off we go again. I tell her she is only allowed one per hack as it gets a bit heavy. :D

Where have all those people with shovels who used to rush out to grab horse poo for their roses gone? in the eyes of the law horses are still transport so theres actually nothing they can do about poo on the road, :)

my mare poohs down the same road everytime and mostly outside the same house which is quite strange but we have to do 10 mins road work before we get to common so not really alot i can do

We've had no less than TWO abusive residents on the estate shouting to us recently - one when one of our horses actually did something and another just telling us as we rode past that horse poo on the road is ********** disgusting and we should be ashamed of ourselves!!
I just said its biodegradeable, pick it up and put it on your garden like people used to round here!!!!!!
Can't believe they got so abusive.

A couple of years ago, I was out hacking and a woman pulled over next to me and wound down her passenger side window; thinking she wanted directions, I stopped and smiled, but no - she wanted to know which horse had produced a pile of dropping about 20 yards ahead of us.

I laughed and said I didn't have a clue, whereupon she lost it. Said it was disgusting, her council tax had to pay for people to clean up after horses etc etc.

I suggested that if she didn't like living in a rural village, she should live in a town and failing that, she should get a life.

I had, by this time, turned left at a road junction, and she blocked me in, with a parked car in front of M's nose and her on my right stirrup. She then started swearing (her son, aged 4/5 was in the passenger seat), ordering me to give her my name and the name of the yard I stabled at.

I am sad to report that at THIS point, (bearing in mind small boy - naughty Mrs B! :o) I told her where to go.

Fortunately, dear M spent the time peering into the car in amazement at such a bad temper...

We went out for a hack recently around local area we always try to be polite , whilst someone was telling me how nice the horses were:) he they went outside her drive I apologised they said dont worry we will use it on the garden x

Interesting that it's only car drivers that have a problem with this, it's a bit of a hazard for motorbikes as it's slippery, which is why I try and get mine to do it as close to the edges as possible

What the heck is wrong with these people anyway, horse poo in the road? Far more interesting things to be worrying about

I just don't understand what the big deal is with drivers.

OK so poo may go in the treads of the tyres but it's not as if they keep their cars inside their houses is it? And it will have dried and flicked out within a couple of miles.

Motorcyclists I can understand but I've never had a motorcyclist stop and moan at me.

A while ago I had someone ask me if I was going to pick up a poop my pony did in the road outside their house I just replied 'no, it's ok you can have it I have a muck heap full of it at home' and rode off, they never approached me again :D

These people get on my ***s, they ponce around in their cars polluting the planet, lager cans, chinese lanterns, flytipping, take away wrappers, crap everywhere, brick and concrete abortions called housing estates littering the countryside, along with the roads and antisocial parking and behaviour ect ect ect ect ect that goes with it, and then they whine about a bit of horse poo in the road, tell her to go **** herself

Thought you would be on this one :D

My Granny tells me that in her days when the 'rag and bone man' or even the milk man came (horse drawn of course). Ladies would be stood with buckets and shovels waiting for poop!! And if the horse delivered there was sometimes a bit of a stampede....

Riders if I were you I would not get in the habit of picking up poo, next thing you know all horses will be required to wear nappies in public places. Seriously, don't concede an inch
People need to get over themselves about it and if we give in to them there's no telling where this will end

I would have told her

This is the country horses cows etc do go on roads, If your that worried go pick it up and stick it on your roses, if thats too much trouble go stick it somewhere else:mad:

I think people get mixed up because dog poo has to be picked up. This is not because dog poo stinks and is horrible to tread in but because it carries an infection which makes small children and babies go blind. Horse poo on the other hand is just digested grass and totally harmless.

.

what about road kill that is on the rd and gets in your tread to me thats more gross, first rain storm and poop gets washed away

I don't understand why people choose to live in the countryside when they clearly don't like the goings on in the countryside. I wonder how some of these adults would react when their little Shanolas and Lambrinis decide they want to learn to pony ride...

I don't think anyone is suggesting we do :D
