I was out on my horse today and he didn't feel right at all. I thought he was lame at first, but he wasn't and I couldn't quite put my finger on it. He was just going really slowly and I thought he wanted a pee so I stopped a few times but he didn't do anything. When I got home I checked him all over and he seemed fine so I turned him out in the field. He then had the longest pee I've ever seen a horse do! Do you think his sluggishness was due to him wanting the toilet? I checked him again tonight and he seems absolutely fine.

Berlin scares me on a regular basis by going stiff and/or lame behind. Get him stood on a patch of grass and he'll pee! Nothing wrong with the bugger, he's just too awkward to pee before I ride!

That's reassuring to know! I'm taking him to his first ever show on sunday and I was thinking I was going to have to cancel. I'm sure that's all it was it because I suspected it when I was riding him.

Yep my loan horse does it all the time. I just know when she wants a pee...can feel and see it when I'm off her. I give her loads of opportunites on hacks but it has to be on grass and the other horses have to be away from her.

She also doesn't like going in her stable if people are in there and will get quite naggy at me. I often have to wait outside her stable door and whistle...I must look mad! And she has to go on a certain spot on the yard whilst going back to her stable!

wow i had the same today with my boy,he felt lame and i couldnt get him to do anything was as much as he could do to stay in a few strides of trot !!
got him back to the yard and untacked him and he went for a huge wee !!!!!

Buddy is a pain he seems to want to pee straight after ive mucked out...i think he is so ungrateful i spend all that time getting rid of all the muck and he just decides to go in and empty his bladder!!! Does anyone else have this or is it just my little weirdo of a horse???

Mine does this at this time of year - he has learnt now though that he just start to walk on the longer grass and we will understand what he's wanting. He's funny cos he gets a bit sluggish, you thnk he's tired then he has a wee and you can almost hear him going "ahhhhhhh"!

Murph hates peeing anywhere other than at home. We were warned about it when we bought him. He obviously gets quite uncomfy if he hasn't "been" and will sometimes buck. We have to do lots of whistling and swishing about of bedding just before we load him. Quite often he dashes off the trailer when we get home and goes as soon as his feet touch the ground. Poor lad, you can see the relief on his face.

My little mare is funny about where she "goes" too. She often needs to wee while on an endurance ride, but won't do it unless the conditions are just right for her, funny beast!

She will wee before she comes in to the stable at night, and often saves it up till she goes out again in the morning, bless!

Haha, wish my horse was that picky! My boy did it, in front of an audience of 500 people, at a clinic where we were guinea pigs at arena uk... there's eric smiley talking, and my horse is stood behind him having a wee... The audience laughed at him and he got a bit scared after that bless his heart!

One of mine start to feel quite sluggish, gets slower and slower but then the instant you put him on a grass verge will pee, obviously a great relief judging by the noises and look on his face. He also like to pee after he has jumped in the ring, get him back to the lorry, untack and he "suggests" a wander to a grass spot, takes a mouthful of grass and pees! Used to him now and can work out when he needs to go.

Mine was quite obviously needing one in the middle of a jumping sess yesterday, but wouldnt go. He must have been desperate bless him as he peed in the lorry on the way home!!

Haha mine goes anywhere. Two days ago I was untacking him and he went right on my schooling whip that I dropped on the ground. Yesterday, (I never thought lightening could strike twice) he walked over into the school and went on my bloody crop!

I think he has some weird whip peeing fetish!!

My friend's horse will pee anywhere, anytime. We rode through the village high street and stopped to let some traffic pass and he promptly pee'd in the road opposite the old folk queing for the post office, and a small yellow river ran all the way past them down to the drain.

Mine's the complete opposite - won't pee ever when I am on him.

My Appy mare will not wee when out and about. She gets quite upset and silly if she needs to go and is not near enough to home. This includes quite long RC rides. She does however stand and trickle for geldings she passes!!

Sunnymane, if this is not a regular thing ie first time ned has behaved like this it might warrant investigation. My riding pal has a nice hunter who sometimes gets a bit colicky coz he has an intolerance for sugar beet. When he's a bit colicky, he will behave like that on a hack. Slow and sluggish, rider parks him on a grass verg for a pee, he's a bit interested, assumes the position (sometimes) then just moves off without peeing and does the same thing 5 mins later. I read somewhere that a horse will often mistake a low grade belly ache for a need-to-pee feeling. No sign of a bit of low grade colic or belly ache with your ned is there?

Mild colic did cross my mind but the way he grunted with relief (which I've never heard him do before) and the very long pee he had when I returned makes me think he was just needing the toilet. I'll certainly keep a close eye on him though, you can never be too careful with your horses health.
