Hi everyone!

In july I got a new pony who is brilliant! A month later she was diagnosed with quite a sore back which she had a month off for and all the right physio. We brought her back into work and she was fine however in the past 2 weeks she has started getting a little tetchy with her back like ears back in canter and when saddle is put on. Formerly we thought the saddle caused the back problem however we have had 3 saddlers out all of which have said the saddle fits, teeth have been checked, bridle fits ... We have the physio coming next friday so fingers crossed shes okay.

I know its a little vague but could anyone think of whatelse it is?

Back pain, unless directly due to a badly fitting saddle, is frequently secondary to pain from elsewhere, as your pony has not fully responded to the physio the physio should refer back to the vet that originally allowed the initial treatment, it could be many things but only a vet can diagnose and then you will know what treatment is appropriate.

Um, when you say you've had three "saddlers" out...... are these qualified "saddlers" OR are they "saddle FITTERS", because there is one helluva difference in the two.

Sorry if appearing pernickety, but anyone who sells saddles or repairs them can describe themselves as a "saddler", and these people can and do fit saddles, BUT a "saddle fitter" is a whole different ball-game and should have appropriate qualifications to that effect.

Contact a SMS "saddle fitter" and ask them to come and give you an unbiased opinion; also get the vet as someone else has stated, before you do anything else.
