On another thread it was stated that this is illegal, does anyone have a link/referance for the legislation that states this as I cannot find anything on the DEFRA website. It was my understanding that this is still legal, all be it that there are controls re length of journey etc. in the UK
Thanks.

As far as I know it is still legal. ILPH have a campaign against the exportation of live horses for meat (Its called make a noise) so I would presume that from that campaign its still legal to do so.

I was under the impression that they had just made it more expensive than it used to be, by upping the transportation conditions?

Thanks all, I also thought it was still legal, but on another thread someone stated very boldly that export for slaughter was now illegal, wanted to check it out.

Unfortunately it's still legal

that would have been me.....

what i meant, and i'm not sure why every little detail has to be explained to so called clued up members on here, was it is illegal to export under a certain value...

and, as it has been mentioned on here MANY times, that JG's horses were VERY thin and bought for a £1...then no, he wouldn't be able to export them.....as they would be under the minimum value...the costs of this are prohibitive, so that part of this whole mess doesn't, for me stack up.

the cheapest route to the continent, which is a back door "loophole" would be to take them to Eire...then on to the continent...
