Just asking as mine seem to have tonight - big time! This isthe second time in the space of a year. Ok so brief overview:-

We have a herd of 5, this has remained unchanged for the last two years when i got a youngster (15mths old) and it took a lonmg time to settle in as prior to that there ahd been no changes for 6 years. I have a pony (now aged 26) and horse aged 21 who I have had since aged 8 and 4 respectively. They have therefore been together for 17 years. Pony is 'boss', and horse is 2nd in command. Last year my sisters horse needed to be on box rest/restricted paddock rest and (to cut a long story short!), this resulted in upset of the herd dynamics and my pony decided my horse was enemy number one!

Pony is very riggy/stallion like in his behaviour although has been confirmed as not a rig but at that time he treaed his field mate of 17 years as if he was a newcomer - would not let him near any herd members (especially the newset edition, the young one) and quite frankly just lost the plot! This went on for 2 weeks until peace was restored.

Today, he has done it again and for no particular reason but he is attacking (ie running at) my horse if he gets anywhere near the others. Thankfully, my horse is not dim and keeps away but this behvaiour is soo bizarre and we don't know what triggered it this time. Pony does have a tendency to appear to hold 'grudges' as if someone has upset him (ie bitten him accidentally or stepped out of line he seems to get v angry for a sustained period). This is different though.

Does anyone else have any horses/ponies who are similar? Should I go get him an appointment with an animal communicator to see what's going on in his mental little head??

I think he's actually hurt himself today as doesn't look fully sound but I can't take him away from the herd when he's in this state as I know how he'll be. I imagine he's strained himself being a berk! Any suggestions for why he behaves like this will be greatly received! :)
