hi all,
i am going to get a horse feeder in few weeks as sick of horses wasting half the hay, also what is best one. i am thinking of a gavalised horse feeder have seen one advertised not far from me, it is a 8 horse feeder. someone mentioned plastic ones to me, but surly they will just break after a few years although they wont rot. i think i will go for a steel. what do you use? also any pics as to what ones is best. also what did you pay for yours.
this man is looking £260 for new 8 fully gavalised horse feeder, sounds good price to me, what do you think.
i usually feed outside in fields, and just hay racks in stables when training them. but prefer them out as they prefer out too.

Is it a hay feeder that you are after?

I have a sheep feeder like this. (I got a new one for £99 this summer)

It fits a large round bale of hay but I have also put square bales in it. The main thing that you need to do to make it horse safe, is to put mesh on the section with bars to stop the horses putting their legs through the bars. I hope that you can see the mesh in this photo.

thanks cool idea, the horse feeder i dont have pic of it, but it has no top bar so wont rub mane of horses, as i have alot f heavy irish cobs with great manes done want to chance losing them with the bar, so the horse feeder hasnt good the bar on top. thanks, also good price, maybe my price it too expensive i was told it was a good price for a horse feeder, maybe i will price round, but have had some friends that paid 340. so thought i got a bargain.

I saw the various threads on Hay Hutches, and although they looked good, they were just too pricey for me. So I popped over to my cousin's farm and got myself one of their old potato boxes - imagine a wooden pallet, but with sides. It is perfect! No more wastage as they can't trample all over it, the sides stop the hay from blowing around (even in the 53mph gusts last week!) and it drains well, even in the heavy rain. It's perfect, and I've definitely saved on hay already, and only had it two weeks. Best of all it was free!

I think new they're around £50, but if you have any friendly farmers near you, they might let you have an old one for free.

I wonder if you are thinking of the Tombstone horse feeder. If so then £260 is a good price. They had them at our last yard and YO paid £360 for them. They are a bit too expensive for me and as I only have two horses I decided on the sheep ring feeder like Faracat.

I saw them at the local CWG store when I picked up my ring feeder. They are huge. There used to be at least six horses in each field using them without any squabbling.
