just wondered if anyone here is a horse agent [ is that the right term? ] and how you do it?

do you buy horses then find new owners or do people contact you to find them a horse?

if so how does it work, do you have it at your own yard on trial etc?

thanks in advance

I occasionally find horses for clients, get their spec, go for look around, contact my contacts (that sounds desperately mysterious lol) and then take them for a shopping trip.
I also buy and sell horses, but never take horses on sales livery as such.

I recently found a horse for a friend - she lives in the north of Scotland and so finds it hard (and expensive) to physically get to look at horses (she finds lots online!)

I'm in Glos so went to look on her behalf, took photos on my phone on the day to email to her, took video and gave her my impartial opinion. Found her one - the 4th horse I looked at. Did a lot of sifting on the phone :-)

It worked because I know her very well - have taught her on previous horses - but she never saw the horse until he arrived at her back door! (slightly nerve wracking !)

It would've been hard to do as successfully if I hadn't known her so well.

I've been around long enough to have sufficient contacts to be able to put people in touch with each other without having the horse on the yard - although am usually delighted to be able to take the horse and produce it for sale if required.

Friend of mine is a professional agent - she lives on the phone - but says it's hard work at the moment as everyone is looking for perfection for peanuts

I used one when I bought my horse. She was featured in a national magazine, was local to me and seemed quite cheap so I thought I'd give it a go. Although she found me my horse and I love him to bits and he is close what I wanted, I'm not 100% convinced she was entirely scrupulous for various reasons which I won't go into on here. She has since disappeared off the face of the earth! Her website has disappeared and telephone numbers I had for her don't work. The strange thing is not one of the horsey people in my area (and many have lots of contacts ) had ever heard of her.
