I have been using Vicks vapour rub to help open the airways for my COPD cob, (clear lungs, but flared open nostrils and mild heaves), and as a bonus have found that horse flies really don't like it. With a fly sheet, head mask and menthol and eucalyptus smeared on any available fur, the flies are not even landing. Hopefully, he may get a short time of relief before he rolls and removes it.
Friend and I coated our bare arms yesterday on the yard, with the same result.

Has anyone got any suggestions for horse fly repellent that works? Cattle can be treated with a variety of pour-on solutions, but nothing appears to be formulated for horses. Horse flies this year seem to be more numerous and persistent, horrible things.
