Ouch!
I was bitten on my elbow by one of those evil things on sat night. By sunday morning by elbow was a bit puffy and my arm bright red and itchy.
By the time i got on the train to come up to scotland last night my arm was swelling, burning hot and hurting like hell. Despite icing it the whole way to scotland (thank you to the nice man in the buffet car for the endless ice supply!) it was swelling at an alarming rate.
Upon arriving at the hotel i begin to realise my shoulder is now hurting, my hand is swelling and my arm looks like the elephant womans. One call to NHS 24 later and I'm on my way to hospital.
Anyway the verdict is a massive reaction to the bite, an arm i can barely use, high strength antibiotics, high strength anti histamine, painkillers and anti inflamatories. Oh and permanent marker pen on my arm tracing the line of swelling which won't come off.
My arm is itching like mad, still swollen, sore as hell and i'm tres tired and very grumpy!
So if you see any of the little blighters today - kill a few for me will you?!!

I would say I think you deserve a very large glass of wine - but with all the pills you're popping, its probably not such a good idea!

Will merrily swat away for you, I hate the damn things!

ouch!! poor u! that sounds awful

I will most definitely partake in the killing later on, as they really annoy my lad when trying to school!! x

Eep i've never been bitten by one as they'd have a job to catch me the speed i run away on sight of them. They scare the life out of me horrible things that they are!

Poor you, hope the meds start to work soon and it goes down quickly.

((hugs)) to you!

I had a horse fly bite on my elbow too! It was last year and I had a reaction to it, my joint was so stiff and swollen I couldn't actually bend my arm at all

. I was drugged up with pretty much the same as you and within 24hours it was a lot better so fingers crossed yours will be too

Hope you're feeling better soon. I hate any sort of bites.

Just to hi-jak you're thread slightly... My normally calm relaxed horse bucked me off on thursday evening by leaping forward and throwing a buck... twice! We were in a corn field, so I assumed she slipped and scared herself or trod on a rabbit/mouse but could it have been that something, like a horse fly, bit her??

We have a competition on the whiteboard for how many you can kill... am up to 46 so far this year! If we all try, we could turn it into a competitor sport and aim to eliminate the lot??

They've had a couple of goes at me, but I think my skins too tough for them

They're resilient little blighters too, I have whacked a couple and seen them drop to the floor and then fly away, so I've taken to catching them in my cupped hand (on the horse), then squishing them between my thumb and finger. It is worryingly satisfying

Ouch - hope the swelling goes and you feel better soon.

Last summer my instructor had to have her wedding ring cut off when a horse fly bit her hand while she was teaching at my yard.

Don't worry, the marker pen will come off eventually!

I always swell up like that, so I always carry homeopathic apis mel and dose myself ever few hours - beats antihistamine hands down.

ewww!!

poor you - hope it feels better soon!

for minor mozzie bites (I always react to those) ibuprofen gel is fantastic - much better than antihistamine

I have cut and pasted this to my OH who swore at me yesterday for thumping one that had landed on him - better a hard thump and dead horse fly then a bite.

Hope it gets well, and I am sure Hovis can put some cooling horse slobber on it to help.
