Has anyone used the ball type traps with the net funnel over the ball? Do they work well? We apparently have the field with the Horse flies this year. Every time I get my two in they have at least one on them. I’m trying to decide if I should get a trap or fly sheets...

I haven't tried the traps, but I did buy some horsefly glue from Equine Innovations, which is fab! You paint it onto black buckets, and hang them off a pole of some sort at about 90cm off the ground. I've caught loads!

I have one and it does catch them. They need to be in the sun - that's very important. I do think I have fewer of them than last year, and the horses are less troubled than when they leave the paddock and there are more about. It is not an instant fix, but I really think it is reducing the number. Mine is from Voss - it was expensive but large and very well built. I took it down over winter, but it is easy to install. I would keep it near the horses providing they don't use it as a scratching post. The sun is important - the black ball warms up and this attracts them. HTH.
