Sorry if this comes across naive... but breeding is still quite nex to me!

I have currently bred foals who are all ponies - they are very flightly, dart about all over the place and generally get up to mischief. Last year i bred a foal that is to make 16.2hh.

Thing is he seems to be very laid back compared to my others - honest he still likes a good run around and a play - but he outlook on life seems to be - well a lot more laid back!!!

My dad suggested this could be because he is a horse and not a pony - is this mad - or is there some logic behind this?

Having never bred a pony foal so I don't know but my horse foals are generally laid back babies!

Well until my 9 month old decided she didn't want to go out this morning and had a major paddy with me (so glad I always use long lines to lead them with!!)

I totally agree with you Winchester, we breed ponies and all the foals are much sharper, and quicker than horse foals, temperaments are adorable but just have a lot of personality!!! We only breed a few horse foals and they have always been a different personality, much more laid back, even the "sharper" ones!!!

I have ponies.

Out of 40 horses on the yard, the girls are the ones who escape, play with things, cause mischief & trouble.

If anyone ends up in the feed room its pony shaped...if headcollars are flung across the yard, the culprit is a pony...
