Anyone seen this before?

The owner of my friends yard is selling a youngster and when i asked how much, the price was plus VAT - i've worked on a lot of yards and seen a lot of horses bought and sold but have never seen one with a for sale price + VAT! Is done often?

They run a livery yard and a farm which sells hay straw etc among other things but nothing else that i have seen seems to be sold +VAT i.e the hay/ straw/ livery services are just £xx?

The sale of horses is a bit strange when it comes to a VAT registered business but it would appear to be correct. There is no vat on hay/straw as its zero/exemptrated and so is DIY livery. However full or part livery will have vat on it. It might be just that they don't specify it separately?

Hay and straw are zero rated they must be accounting for vat on the livery services somehow or they will be in a mess with HMRC, Do they insist on cash for livery? However the horse if it is part of a VAT registered business will be subject to VAT at 20%

DIY livery is not zero rated. The only way around it is if you rent the land and a box with nothing service wise included ie.electric ,water and use of other facilities.
