I'm looking to take my pony to a beach as he loves hacking, not sure how he'd react to the sea but it shouldn't be a problem! We'd be taking my stable neighbour aswell who's got a sensible horse.

Can anyone recommend some nice beaches not more than 2 1/2 hours away from Hertfordshire? I can't find anything on the net!

what about some in Suffolk i think you can go on the beach some where near Sizewell the nuclear plant place. In Norfolk you can ride on Holkham beach. Or try Essex for beaches. Have you tried googling it. Good luck in your search

We just got back from Holkham beach in Norfolk and I can highly recommend it! Went with daughter and 32 ponies from our PC and stayed at a farm nearby.

At the farm we stayed at they said it was a 40 minute hack to the beach, but you have to go some to get there in that time! But one day we boxed to the beach and the horses were too fresh, so we preferred to hack and got it down to a fine art. I have to say it was probably the best hack of my entire life as it rained on the last night so the ground was perfect. They had a 3 hour hack around the farm too, but we loved the beach too much to pass up even a day. Had fun as one horse jumped over a wave and teenager fell into the water, and mine demonstrated huge ability for half pass in canter thanks to the wind and waves!

It took exactly 2hours 40 mins, but it was worth it, very easy journey, pm me if you want address and phone number. You can stay in B&B or sleep in lorry/tent to make it worth while.

You might find somewhere nearer, but very few beaches let you ride on them at any time of the day. I rode on the beach at Southwold last year, but that is only allowed in the winter and it was all shingle so difficult to find spots to trot/canter. Holkham is perfect, loads of space to canter up and down, nice big car park (cost £10 but worth it), even had a coffee van for after hack warm-up.

Norfolk is a fair way from us, we'd have to hire a lorry for more than one day which wouldn't be cheap! I will keep looking for something in Essex or Sussex, my boy also manages to halfpass when it hails! God forbid should he be able to do it in normal weather haha
