Yesterday i turned up at yard, did all my jobs and went to get my girly in from field. The second i saw her standing by the gate with nose touching ground and right hind leg lifted up, i knew something was wrong. I caught her and tried to lead her out, she could barely walk, she was hopping lame and would hardly touch the ground with her right hind. Great, a vet bill just after christmas is what i need right now :/ so i brought her in, very very slowly at her own pace, first thing was to wash all mud off legs so i could see what was wrong. I couldn't find anything, nothing there that would give a hint why she is lame. So we took rug off.. Just under the point of her hip was a huge lump, about the size of a fist. So i stood there putting a cold sponge on it for about 15 min to reduce the swelling. What we think happened, she was being a loon and running around the field, then slipped and landed on her hip or maybe she slipped and bashed against the fence posts, either way, she found a way to injure herself again  One of the liveries mum was up at the yard and said that she could do some reiki on it if i wanted, i let her as it wouldn't hurt so i dont mind. Horse fell asleep while lady was doing her thing. This morning, horse is absolutely fine, lump is minimal, you wouldn't notice it if you didnt know where to look, and when horse went out, she tracked up nicely in walk and trot and obviously felt good enough as she went galloping down the field and popped over the electric fencing into another paddock so i think horse is feeling better  :D
I did thank the lady, i'm still not sure whether it was the reiki or whether the injury just wasn't as bad as it seemed and cold compresses and a rest sorted it out. Either way, i'm happy that ponio is all better, although i do wish she was a bit more sensible in the field.
This was my first encounter with reiki healing and i must say that it was a positive experience and i'm impressed :D

I had some reiki people out to Bailey when he was recoverng from colic, and they spent 20 mins with their hands on his tummy and he loved it! Went to sleep, bottom lip quivering and went off quite happy to graze afterwards!!

Not sure what exactly happens, but something does :)

I'm not going to comment on the Reiki as anything even vaguely alternative seems to produce some very nasty, rude and abusive posts here, but my mare had a swelling the size of a melon (I kid you not) on her hindquarters - along with several very deep gashes and obvious hoofprints on her back legs. Another mare had absolutely battered her for no good reason other than it could (my old girl was elderly, half blind and not able to move out of the way except slowly so certainly not a threat to anyone) so I suspect that is possibly what has caused your horse's swelling. It did go down with amazing speed though. By the next day it was barely visible although still hot to the touch. Keep your eyes open for it turning into an abcess though.

I'm a skeptic about pretty much everything, but regardless of the actual 'healing' reiki is supposed to do, I think having a calm quiet person spending some time basically just chilling your horse out can't do any harm! I reckon it was the cold compress ;) Glad she's feeling better.

I've had reiki attunements so I can stick my two pence in from experience side!
A reiki practitioner is basically a vessel to channel energy through, energy is everywhere and we all have energy imbalances, be it through injury, emotion, illness etc. Reiki tops up your energy and helps to balance you.

Whether you're a believer or not, the calming effect of having some touch from someone in a meditative state is quite something in itself. :)

The first human I gave an hours reiki treatment to is a good example, she said she was skeptical - then after the treatment she said she felt incredibly relaxed, then burst into tears and had a BIG emotional release of lots of stuff she had been trying to bury deep inside! She didn't know where it came from! This can be an effect of reiki, helping to release the bad and top up with good! She slept better than she ever had that night.

Horses are good to do reiki on, though I don't get to do it often enough as unless I've gone through explaining it all to everyone on the yard people think I had lost the plot! :p But unlike humans, horses give you signs that they are relaxing and enjoying the energy - dropping head, licking lips, blinking/closing eyes etc, it's lovely. My boy can be quite anxious - he cribs and it can be a challenge to get him to initially relax but when he does it is great. And when they have had enough they will simply move away. After a scary week of severe colic and a very sore gut from entrapment I've been giving him reiki to help relax and restore his ki (life force energy) and this has helped him sleep more! :)

I will shut up now before I get stoned for sounding like a complete hippy :D
