Does anyone else have a horse that seems to love their particular feed and then falls out of love after 12-18 months? I am quite restricted on what I can feed my horse as she doesn't do well on anything with cereals in it (except for the bare minimum), goes mental with anything oat related and can only have small portions of anything that includes alfalfa. I have had her on Keyflow sensicare and am reaching the 8 month mark and am becoming nervous. She has been on their staycool and golden oldies. Their other feeds are more for horses in medium to hard work, i.e. competition horses.
My issue is that Keyflow feeds absolutely suit her. I have tried other brands in between but she just goes mental. After she went off golden oldies I tried a few other brands which didn't work so tried to put her back on staycool. She ate it for a month or two then went off it. Is she just mega fussy or have others experienced this with their horses? (this isn't a vet check question, she doesn't have ulcers or any other nasties)

I had a mare like this but she took a few weeks to go off a new feed, not months. It turned out that her issue was low oestrogen levels in the winter and when given oestrogen injections she ate, well, like a horse! They were effective 2 hours after putting it into a muscle and lasted about 3 weeks.

Alf gets bored when I feed him the same feed all the time. He doesn't gradually stop eating it - he'll polish off one feed, then the next mealtime, he leaves his own feed and pushes the colt off his baby food!
He likes Ease and Excel the most, so this is what he usually has, but we have a little break from it every couple of months, when he usually chooses to eat Ulsakind cubes instead!

My old pony refuses to eat any mashes or anything with soya in it..plain oats and linseed are what he likes but obviously only in small amounts.
