ive seen that happen but in an hgv oakley and the mare went through thedoor into the living and out of the grooms door out of the box. She ripped all her side open and there were bits of flesh hanging from the side of the box. She is fine now though, it wasall stiched up but because the scar is on her side she cannot be ridden as the girth rubs on it and could rip it open again and she cannot be put in foal incase the scar rips open, so she is now just an expensive lawnmower (cant be a companion as she is vile tempered!!) but i think they have learnt there lesson and are keeping there doors shut from now on!!!!

My Andalusian did the same thing only it was out of my lorry. He'd got upset by something and when I loaded him up I heard a commotion. I opened up the grooms door and he had his front feet over the bar, he heaved his whole body over into a human sized space whilst I stood their unable to do anything and then just came flying out through the grooms door on to the concrete. I loaded him ip again, tied his head normally and with a rope underneath but he just dropped his backside on the floor and got his legs over the bar again. I managed to persuade him to go back, took him off the lorry and stayed at home that day. The only damage he did was to the lorry door frame which he bent in a few places. He loads and travels fine to this day! He was very lucky.

I had a horse go through a groom's door a few years ago - 16.2 tb so not a small horse. It was 6 in the morning, so no one around to help - not that anyone could have done much as he got stuck but never stopped panicking. It took him about an hour to get through and just as the vet arrived he fell out and lay under the lorry. I had called the vet to have him PTS as his injuries were horrendous but beause the vet was more worried about the state that I was in he decided to give the horse 24 hours before making a final decision - against all the odds he did surive but it was a long, timeconsuming and expensive road back to full health during which several times we thought he would die of shock. He did go back to competing again and interestingly never had an issue with loading or travelling. What made him attempt the virtually impossible we will never know !

saw that one at the time.

havent they made the grooms doors in the new ifors bigger now too? maybe not such a great idea.

I have lost count of the number of times i have seen people load with grooms door open, no breastbar up and just prayed that the horse doesnt make a run for the light!

My friend's horse did that - got himself in a tiz about being taken away from friends to load, went over the breast bar and out of the jockey door, buckling the side of the trailer in the process. Friend was stuck inside with him. He was fine, tiny nick on a back leg, she was physically ok but took 4 hrs to stop shaking.

He was stuck at one point with front legs over the bar and on the floor, head through jockey door and back legs about 3' off the floor with the breast bar holding them up, somehow managed to wriggle over it as I was trying to undo it from the outside. Very scary.

After seeing what I saw, I think a bigger door is a good thing. I doubt most would try to get through, but for those who do it's better that they can fit rather than risk injury coming through a small one. My friend's horse did go through the older smaller door but ended up bending all the frame as well as he went, it could have been much worse if he'd got stuck.

hahaha, my 14.2hh as a 3 yr old went under the breast bar in an ifor williams trailer and straight through the grooms door. ARSE. I have NO idea how he got through as was rather fat but didn't even lose a single hair!
