This is the word that my trainer used a few weeks ago to describe my horse. When I got her earlier on in the year, she wasnt fit so we worked on this and I started to take her out to comps and although she was a little fast and didn`t have `power steering`, we got round with the odd pole down. I started having lessons with a very good trainer and within a month, she had us jumping a course of 1m10-1m20 and it did my confidence the world of good. We got the power steering and it was all going well.
The problems started when she had some stops whilst out doing some XC. So she now knows how to stop, so my trainer said.
I have had her back done, and have just bought a new saddle, the old one that I had fitted just 5 mths ago, was now too narrow. She has changed shape and so needed a wider one. A good enough reason for her to have the odd stop

I decided to take her to a small show earlier today. She had one stop in the clear round at 2`6", then clear the next time in. I then decided to do the 2`6" novice class. Now in this class they had just added 2 fences at the end. The first one, was a filler, a viaduct, but they had them at the sides, not under the jump, and she spooked at it and stopped but jumped it the 2nd time. Now, we have jumped a few spooky fillers including these viaducts and even this same one, and all at about 1m + and although she has looked, she hasnt stopped at them and not spooked. I have recently changed her food to give her a little oomph, but I think it is causing her to be spooky instead. Spooky but a little lethargic still.
Any ideas?
Has anyone had their horse go `green`?
Or has anyone changed the feed and their horse go spooky?
Thanks

Yes I have! I dont think its that unusual for young horses as they have so much to take in. Although it sounds like your trainer has pushed him too fast (unless she knew the horse before you got him and knows exactly what its done?).
Dont worry too much if he was keen before, he will come back, its just time. Has he shocked himself by stopping?
All I can say is stick to the lower jumps until the penny drops again and go to lots and lots of little stuff to get his confidence back.
good luck hope it works out.

Just wondered what your horse had done before you bought her, why was she unfit, had she started stopping before you got her? Only been there done that and got the t-shirt!

She was unfit as the rider had been diagnosed with an illness and was unable to ride. I knew the person who I bought her off so I knew a little of what she has done. I also have her BSJA record. She has got DC in BN DIS and New and placed so she has jumped the height. But on talking to someone today she thinks that the trainer pushed us too quickly too soon. But also thinks that the jumps that she has been spooking at were too small for her and she was just spooking at them as they werent what she usually jumps. My friend had a similar experience with her horse that was jumping 1m30 classes, rode it into a 3ft fence and it spooked and stopped and this horse never stops.

Can you hand on heard say you didn't look at the spooky bits with your horse?

Mine was jumping disco and got eliminated at local RC 2ft 3" as threw the towel in and I'd started throwing myself up his neck for security. All problems were my fault - but have since fixed them!!!
