Hello everyone,
ive had my cob for 18 months. When i first got him he bolted with me out on hacks a few times. Which terrafied the pants off me!!!
We got over that and now regularly hack out either on my own, with other half on his bike or ride to meet my friend and her horse.
But on Monday i rode out on my own, nothing unusual, same route etc, but halfway back home i was trotting and he spooked at puddle jumped into middle of rode and cantered off with me down the road, managed to stop him, but we were now on the wrong side of the road.
Walked a bit further, then tried another trot and he did the same, i dont know what was so scary the second time.
Rode out again yesterday to meet my friend and her horse and as a car went passed us he did it again, got him to walk again but he felt like a coiled spring until i met my friend, he then returned to his normal calm self.
Now if youve got this far ha ha,
There are two things i have changed in the last couple of weeks, one i have is introduced a general vitamin supplement (naff) and two I have also changed my hay supplier, the hay is much coarser than our usual, i am wondering if it could be rye grass hay and could this be sending him a bit loopy???
I have tonight started to soak the hay overnight to reduce the sugar in it to see if this makes a difference, meanwhile i am too scared to ride out on the road with him until i can work out why he doing this. So will do some schooling in my field over the weekend unless is too wet.
I wouldnt have thought that any hay could have this affect though??
Any thoughts?????????
thank you
