Does anyone know how long the horses at horse guards stand at there posts? been in London for a few days and walked past saw two sleepy horses :) must say they did look cold though fully clipped stood there. Would of liked to go into the museum however didnt get time.

I don't think so, I know they get to go out hacking, there is an old law that allows the cavalry the run of London until 8am, they go for blasts on commons and stuff, I was staying with a mate near Gt Albert Hall and got woken by what I thought was heavy rain, nooooo, just an entire regiment hacking down the road!

There was a series a while back on Ch4 that was a docu on Household Cavalry, you can buy the DVD, good watching, partic when they teach novices to ride, with NO STIRRUPS and they can't ride until they can vault on.

I'm not 100% but I'm sure I remember being told they trot for 1hr straight at 6am in/around London.

The Mews is beautiful - stables are beautiful and immaculate.

My friend worked as civvy groom for these. They hack as normal horses hack out in the park walk trot and canter. They take lessons for he civil service Riding club on a weekday evening and get sent for a field holiday on a rotated basis I believe once a year. The stables are mostly underground at the Hyde Park Barracks.
