Oops phone decided to post before I had a chance to finish!!! Let's start again.
About 4 days ago I decided to start leaving my horse out 24/7 now the weather is a bit nicer. She is in the same field as she has been for the past 4 years and I decided to cut her feed down to one a day as the grazing is not bad up there.
Since then she has had really bad runs!!! She has NEVER had this in the 6 years I've owned her so I'm putting it down to the weather as she is also used to being out 24/7 in the summer.
So wot do I do?? Leave her out and hope she gets over it? Bring her in or add something to her feed to stop her gettin dehydrated??
Sounds like the grazing is a little too rich for her at the moment due to the recent weather. My new boy had horrific, projectile runs for nearly two weeks after being turned out in a lush paddock. I sectioned off a corner of his current field with electric fencing, gave him a daily probiotic supplement and his gut settled within two days.
Thanks for that, I can't section the field but I do think I'm going to get her a supplement of some sort. I don't want her dehydrated. Can u just get a probiotic from the tack shop then?
Probably a good idea re the supplement for dehydration - I didn't bother with anything specific, just bought him a Horslyx field lick so he could pick and choose. In hindsight I probably shouldn't have bothered with this as the high sugar/ molasses content won't have improved the situation. I removed it from the field after a day when I realised this.
A lot of horse owners swear by Naf Pink Powder to promote gut health, however I took advantage of a Feedmark offer that was on over Badminton weekend and bought BioPro for my boy. I can't say if it worked or not as I began feeding it only a day before I moved him to his little corner, but it will help promote healthy gut bacteria which she will be losing through her sloppy poo. I'm still feeding it daily and his poo is now completely normal You can definitely get Pink Powder from your local feed supplier or tackshop... Just call ahead to make sure they have it, if not I'm sure they would order it in for you!
