had back lady out who found out he is really quite sore on top of bum i had given him light work (just hacking) for a week or so as felt something not quite right. he done his check ligament early this year so has been compensating etc etc. so she told me to give him 3 weeks off and massage every day. so a couple years ago i bought a hand held massager (ponder massager) dug it out today and used it on him ( after talking to back lady) he loved it really hope it helps him has your horse had a really sore back and had to have time off what did you do to help it ?

lots of turnout helps, a good groom relaxes the muscles, walking in hand or long reining getting them to walk long and low, walk in straight lines try and avoid tight circles :) hope your horse is feeling better soon :)

My horse tends to be a bit susceptible to misalignments in his back, so has 6 monthly appointments as a matter of course with the McTim chiro. I do lots of long reining up and down hills with him, raised pole work, and use my equilibrium massage pad which he seems to really enjoy. He's never stabled (lives in an open barn with a yard) so he's always gently mobilising, less opportunity to stiffen. Also, I'm very careful to keep his back warm when the temperatures drop and work him in an exercise rug too on cold days. Bit labour intensive, but generally keeps problems at bay.
