HOrse hates school work

Ok bit of a problem I think my horse hates going in to the school to work, she switches off, becomes lazy and doesn't co-operate. I jumped her Sat night and she just could not get enthusiasm with a cross pole resulting in us scrambling over several times and even stopping once. We had a kind of little course, she jumped gate though a bit spooky, parallel she jumped lovely as she did an upright. Anyway trying to get her to maintain her canter was a joke.

Yesterday I took her on a jolly hack - her trot was forward and open as was her canter. So the thing is how can I inspire her to work in the school, enjoy it and start to come through.

She is being fed 3kg of Baileys Endurance Mix and adlib haylage. She is quite a stress head so performace mixes are a no go
 
how about using her enthusiasm on a hack for some schooling while you are out? may not be full solution but at least you could get to do a few things while the horse enjoys herself out hacking;
I dont think feeding anything for more energy would be of any real help btw.
 
Have you tried doing lots of transitions on the flat with her to get her listening to you more? Pole work? Do you think she anticipates what your doing or getting bored with it?
 
Ren does that - he hates going in the school at home, and is soooo lazy..
He has always been like that and will never change, its just him! Even with the jumping, he switches off in the school.

However when he goes to a party, and we are doing Dressage he is another horse.. As he is away from being in the same area, and the same goes for jumping.

I tend to only ride in the school twice a week, he would much rather go on hacks for a good canter

I think she may have issues with our school, even loose schooled she is uninspired. I hack to dressage trainers and she goes so much better. Box to jumping trainer and again she is so much more forward going.

I do lots of transitions, move around the jumps etc. Canter is the worse though as ask for even 1 lap of the school and she will generally die. I have a ODE in 2 weeks and she needs to do more canter work as she lost NRG XC last time
 
my horse had been overschooled when we got him and used to stress out completely in the school, i gradually built up sessions and started with only five mins, going for a hack straight after. now he is managing just over half an hour, i keeep his attention by doing lots of transitions and poles, just to keep him using his brain so he doesnt have a chance to stress and panic
we also used a field out hacking to school in for the first month so it was more 'fun'
 
If she's not enjoying it, then ban yourself from the school for a couple of months (easy in the summer) and do all your schooling on hacks/in fields.
When you do take her in the school post ban, only do a few minutes at a time and make it fun.
That way she should stop having that 'Monday morning feeling' when heading to the school!

Pickle is very similar, I find if I take him on a short hack, then do a little bit of schooling. Then maybe do another tiny little hack he is kept happy!
 
My horse hated being ridden in an arena as he had been overschooled. So just did not go in one. I schooled on the road, jumped in the field/ at comps and just hacked and now he is fine about it.
 
my mare is like that and after months of battling at trying to school etc and get her out at elementary she is now with a kid doing PC - because her life is so much more varied now (i dont jump and only hacked once every week) she doesnt mind popping into the school every so often for a quick bit of schooling.

i can only suggest schooling out hacking, in fields and while jumping/with poles to try to make it more fun.
