I keep seeing this place come up on facebook and wondered if anybody knew about it/what it's like? I would like to donate but unsure off a few things so will e mail them later. The things that worry me " they state they are a rescue but have a loan and sale section!!! Loan I understand but sale!!! And they have a colt up for loan!!! Surely he should be gelded first, maybe they might but not stated on web site. Just wondered weather to bother or if I'm just paying for somebodys private horses!!! First horse I clicked on was brought from Market.

if you don't know much about the organisation, what would make you want to donate to them? Perhaps you could donate to the people that might go under without funds this year EMW are an amazing charity and they need help!

Or you might consider donating to Crosskennan Lane Animal Sanctuary. They rescued a number of horses very recently and are relying on donations to fund their care. Google it. There is also a thread on here called 'another spindles farm' but I can't link you as I am using my phone.

Yes, please ensure you look into any charity that you donate to first before giving your money away. That is not to say there is anything wrong with Horse Haven, I've never heard of them either.

EMW are a registered charity and do great work. 'Some' unregistered charities have turned out to be nothing more than people using donations to fund their own property and horses which is why I think you should be cautious and do your homework first. Again I would stress I know absolutely nothing about this particular charity, this is a general observation not aimed at them in any way.

I know all about these people.

I went to an equine college and the person who runs this 'rescue' also went to the same college. I was on a lvl2 then a lvl3 horse management course, whereas she was on a level1 'pathfinder' course, without sounding harsh, this is purely factual, 'pathfinder' is a course for mentally challenged individuals. They did abit of everything, some horticulture, some animal care and some equine.

She then dropped out of pathfinder, and joined the animal care course, as part of their course they had to clean tack, muck out on the yard, as they were neither confident or competant enough to actually ride/handle the horses. (I once caught one mucking out an entire straw stable with only a broom!)

Anyway, whilst she was on this course she obviously decided horses were the way she wanted to go, and managed to convince somebody to give her this big bay IDx mare on loan, which she then proceeded to keep at the college on livery. Whilst it was at the college, it was on DIY not working, she left it knee deep in urine soaked straw, without any food for what seemed like days, how this went unoticed by the college staff confuses me to this day really, eventually one of the instructors lost their temper and mucked the horse out for her when she wasnt around. The college then contacted the horses owner who removed the horse from the girl.

She also has a horrible temper and was always screaming and hollering at this poor big mare(who was very dosile) shes a terrible rider, and quite a large girl, which is not problem to me except she always has these pictures up of her sat on tiny little ponies!! She's a horrible horse woman, and the whole 'rescue' thing is a joke. She seems to just buy little ponies from sales, but that isnt rescue as such is it, anybody can get their hands on those little things.

DON'T DONATE! The best thing for these horses is for her to run out of money and have to sell them all.

But as said before, does anybody know of a reputable rescue that loans out colts and sells horses with medical problems!

Roisin-m, I think that has made my mind up for me. Thanks guys. Just thought a new place which had set up might need a hand but the warning signs were there so will leave it.

Iv actually sat down tonight and had a dam good look through their website and tbh all I see is somebody asking for money for a lot off horses, half off which are their own ( they brought them) seems more off these places starting up, when will rules come in to place on this kind off thing.
Will stick to a well known place I think to donate to.
