I have had a very scary day today......

Went for a hack with friend and on the way home my friend spotted a foal, on the moor, trying to eat a piece of fabric. MY friend tried to shoo the foal and mum away and was successful. Unfortunately the bit of fabric was still blowing about , we tried to push it up into a tree but no joy. I then offer to get off and push the bl***y fabric right into thorny tree out of harms way.
Meanwhile friends horsey decides to do a massive spook at god knows what and my friend falls out the side door and is lying on the ground being pulled apart by two horses who are completly frantic I scream at her to let go 'cos she is in danger of being pulled into two.
The two horses take off at full pelt followed by me running behind as best I could, but two Arabs at full pelt are very hard to catch, nigh impossible.

I could hear their hooves on the road and knew that I didn't have a chance in hell of catching up with them.

Eventually friends horse is found beside the road on the moor, unharmed No sign of my boy, so I pelt off down the road to where my yard is , the farrier was visiting a neighbors horse and had very kindly caught him careering down the lane and put him in his stable .

When I get to his stable he has blood all over his mouth and a big gash in it, and he has scraped the skin off his hocks and has abrasions on his legs. I fortunately had booked the vet to come this morning to give him his tetanus booster so called him ahead to warn him that I needed more than the jab.......

The vet has put 15 clips in his mouth, but says it should heal quickly and also that the leg injuries should not cause lasting damage. He has given him bute and will remove the clips in two weeks time. Hope that all is well for my poor boy!

That isn't all........... while waiting for the vet a couple arrive at the yard and relay that my boy hit the back off their car while crossing the road , breaking the rear quarter light window. I didn't see the car and both people were ok. But I think they are going to claim from my insurers!
What a day......

OMG!!

What a day you have had - glad you are all ok and in one piece (sort of!). Hope everyone is mended and better soon.

What an awful day, glad everyone is (relatively) unharmed. I should think you need a hot bath and a stiff drink to get over all that!

It could have been so much worse - someone was kind of looking after you all - just didn't do a quite good enough job. You must be in shock; take care of yourself.

OMG poor you and poor horse!!!

At least everyone, and animals are ok. Lucky escape!

Put your feet up and have a large glass of something. Hope your horse is better soon.

What an awful day for you..

but re the people who claim to have a car damaged by oyur horse....

don't admit to anything and ask if they have any witnesses to the event.

If not then I doubt they can hold you liable as there is only their word for it.. they may be pulling a fast one..people do..see an oportunity and make it up as they go along.

If there were no witness to the so called accident then I don't think they can make a claim as they have no proof it was your horse at all.

Also given that ther was more than one loose horse as well they would have to prove that it was your horse...saying it was without witnesses is not enough..they need a witness to confirm it, you can claim that it may not have been your horse. reaonable doubt.

Thank you all so much for your kind wishes and sympathy.

I have just returned from visiting the poorly boy and he is looking ok. The swelling has gone down on his mouth and there is no swelling on his legs so far, thank goodness! He seemed pretty chilled out ! Wish I could say the same for me.....

Think I will have fish and chips for me and OH, as I can't be bothered to cook, will also have large glass of wine!

I am going to write down what happened for the insurance while it is still clear in my mind..... Also I am wondering about the woman who hit him, she said that she didn't know she had hit him, thought she had been shot at! Then claimed she drove home, and then arrived at the lane leading to the yard and found out from someone else where the horse had gone. She also claims that an old man saw the horse running away from the car.I don't understand how she could not have seen the horse!

I didn't admit anything to the woman only said I was sorry, so we will see what happens with NFU!

What a horrific day! I am just pleased that there were no more serious injuries, the injuries incurred are bad enough.
Hugs to you all.
