Why is it that all or most dogs love hoof?
I meen after the farrier has trimmed of coarse , not (i hope) while they are still on the horse! :D
Mine go mad for it, to the point that i have to leave them in the car until she has finished , otherwise they are under the horses trying to pick bits up while she is still trimming.

My OH gets quite crabby when he finds bits of chewed hoof burried in his coat, in the back of the car. :D :D

Yeh mine love them 2, 4 trims last week and they are still hoovering up the bits. Buffy does tend to puke them back up again if she has too many so do have to ration her a bit, but Evie makes a beeline for the stable every morning.

I guess it's because they're made of keratin - the same stuff that hair is made out of, so it would make sense that a hairy animal likes to eat the stuff to keep their coat nice.

Ok sounds good, but following that, why do they eat horse poo, or any poo come to that?

To a dog hooves, claws, beaks, feathers and fur with bone are the natural fibre in their diet. They eat poo as they cannot digest plant cells without help, so they eat the "processed" product from the back end of another animal. Plus all these things smell and taste good to dogs and what you don't eat you can roll in, what's there not to like???

I think that that is why a lot of dogs like to eat other dogs waste because it has been pre processed and they can probably get something out of it!!
