I know compared to some I have not been looking long (3 wks) But I have done over 1000 miles, had my dream horse fail the vet.

Im just fed up of horses being lame, nutters or more like donkeys

It doesn't matter how many questions you ask they are never what they say they are.

Also noticed that the ones that really do sound good are snapped up really really fast.

how are you finding things? are the good ones gone?

I think you need to give it 6 months before getting fed up!

Good grief I would have given up well before then and gone into hibernation for winter

I know how you feel - I was looking for the exact same thing about 2.5 years ago, a 16hh for £3000. I tried a few then got fed up when I got pipped to the post on one I'd really liked. I waited about 4-5 more months and in that time didn;t see any but saved another £1000 and ended up getting one for £4000. Mine wasn't exactly as I thought - needed much more schooling and not quite the plod I'd though I was getting but now we're getting somewhere I'm rather glad she isn't.
With my second horse - bought a few months ago - I found him just down the road at a previous livery yard. You might find word of mouth, tack shops or even just putting an ad yourself in a few local livery yards as the best step forward. I know a few on my yard came up for sale and were snapped up without even being advertised anywhere.
What exactly are you looking for and what are you wanting to do with the horse?

We looked for a year and a half!!!

You might have a bit to go yet, but I hope you find what you want, and don't give up, the horse for you is out there!!

bloody hell, I can't believe how long you guys have had to wait! That said, I've rushed into two wrong decisions :-) My mare was on my yard so was much easier for me - took me a day to decide.

It's easier now that I'm back in Hampshire as I know so many more people and its alot more close knit than London was .....

I hate to sound smug. I bought my first two horses from a Riding school and knew them well, one is now 30 and I love him to bits. I bought a Highand from a friend and everything else from breeders.

Perhaps I am easy to please. I don't compete so wasn't looking for great talent but I am very happy with my little herd and I did not do a lot of searching.

I guess I'm looking for what everyone wants 16hh forward going, responsive but also steady as in not wanting to race around or jog everywhere. kinda laid back but not a plod

want to do indoor sj/dr over winter (which winter who knows)
Then in summer RC stuff and hunter trials maybe unaff ode

I can give u hope - i have bought lots of horses over quite a number of years and its never taken me more than 3 viewings to find what ive wanted - the next horse you view could be perfect so dont get dis-heartened.
Also dont be frightened to contact owners of horses that are over your budget - let them know what you are able to offer and the type of home you can give etc - there are tonnes of very caring owners that would rather sell their horses to really nice homes than achieve top money for them.

I know it is frustrating and you are really eager to find yourself that perfect horse, but, if you rush into it the horse you end up with may be far from perfect! It pays to be firm with yourself and be very patient. You will find that horse but it may come a little later rather than sooner. When you find it you will end up with a friend for life and just what you are looking for. Just be patient.

dont worry I won't rush, It has to ve right!

Have already seen about 12 horses despite asking so many questions on the phone I have a huge phone bill now too

First time took one week. Second time took three weeks.

But, looking for Daughter's took a few weeks of ringing around, but only one viewing.

Other daughter's took a couple of months and in the end I bought the wrong one

And we've still got him, after he made her give up!

oh no on the vetting front - what was wrong with the lovely black mare?

She was lame altho had not been when i saw her, but vet was sure it was a long term lameness

Donjt give up- as silly as it sounds look at the crap adverts too!!! I found my new boy after my friend emailed me a rubbish ad that had a tiny pic that was blurry. I got there and he was wonderful!!! on equine adverts or a similar site.

Look in odd places to so tack shops, feed stores and main websites as well as the smaller sites. Put out that you want a new nag via friends etc. I have a very lovely friend in the same position as you she had 1 on trial that lasted 10 mins on the yard as she soundness checked it and then sent it back on the delievery lorry!!!

Good luck and dont be disheartened - try the little places too xx

Sorry to to hear you are struggling to find something.
You are really going to hate me, I wasn't even looking to buy a horse but saw the advert for my mare saw her and picked her up a week later and have now had her for 3 weeks. She was a bargain and one not to be missed!!! Sometimes things apear when and where you least expect them to so don't be too disheartened.
What exactly are you looking for?

some thing that I can do indoor SJ with over winter that is safe, responsive but also laid back if that makes sense lol I have seen some that were sold as safe and yet friend and I wouldn't even get on they were so nutty. another didn't know how to walk or stand still in his own indoor school !!!

I don't want a plod or a kick along either so Im stumped!

I'd stop bothering with the travelling, we went miles and both of mine were rejects from the DIY yard 1 mile down the road. Both bought 2-3months previously whose new owners couldnt get on with them

What you want is also what a large % of people buying want and unless you are prepared to look for something over 15 I think you'll be hard pushed with a £3k budget. You may get lucky and hear of something by word of mouth at that price but if it's genuine I think you will need to look closer to £5k for something sound and younger even in this market.
