IF anyone knows or has seen this horse before please let me know,
I bought her from Paddy Tom, at Dartford tunnel dealer, in October 2000,
She was pts on Tuesday, and Im desperate to know what her history was, she was 17.1 hh Belgium warmblood, branded mare, she was bay, with a long white face, which was distinctive feature,
I am desperate to know where she came from, I think she was in her mid 20's when she was pts, she was a miracle, the horse with the biggest heart and character I could ever know.
Please, please if you have any idea, or know what her breeding may be, or recognise her, please let me know.
I dont know much about Belgium horses, but she was much chunkier than the modern day types, any idea, anyone,
all feedback completely appreciated.

I'm sorry to hear you have lost your mare

Unfortunately I doubt you will find out much about her background. Tom Bonner scours the lower grade sales (i.e Southall) and also has some shipped from Europe - usually those destined for the meat man. There are many many sorry tales that have gone through his yard over the years and sometimes I think it might be best not to know. The best thing you know is that she had a lovely home in her later years and that you did the best for her.

Hi,
Thanks so much for responding to my post,
Im just distaught,
I think you could be right, she might have been detined for meat,
He said to me, that he brought her from Ireland,
She was fine for about a year, then terrible archrutis set in, and she become so bad, that she couldnt stand still, she kept shuffling from foot to foot,
eventually, she went down in the field and couldnt get up,
I was on my own , and I couldnt get her up, I was heartbroke,
still im, (as Im typing this), had to have her pts, no option at all, the vet gave her anti inflammatory injectionj, but it didnt help her,
I had to let her go, I cant stop crying.

Sorry to hear about your horse. I went to his yard a few times and he says that the horses come from Ireland. Have also seen him at Southall Market in London

Can't help you but my first pony, an Irish cob, came from Irish Tom at exactly the same time you bought your mare, though I didn't buy her from there, I bought her from the riding school 6 months later. They picked up 2 at that time, the other horse was such a state they had him pts. I'm sure you know what that place was like at that time and how the horses were handled.

She had 9 good years with you and I hope it helps you to reflect on that at a sad time for you.

oh, my goodness, really,
the mare just looked a me, and I said, I wouold take her,
do you remember a chesnut horse, quite chunky, who was going completely loop the loop, round the stable, he was next to my mare, he was sweating heavily and looked really distressed?, I wonder what happened to him, ? I wonder if it was him, that they pts?
I think, it was the start of October that I was there, god, Im going to go and look for the reciept.
there were some awful cases there, honest to god,
But you know, I dont regret my mare for a minute, only that he told me she was about 9, and I think going on what the vet said when she was pts, that she was in her mid to late 20's.. that she was probably more like 19, when I bought her.
but he was convicted of misdiscribing ages, so that wouldnt be unlikely , would it!.
Thanks, I know I gave her a good retirement, but im still desperate to know where he got her from,
I loved her so much, she was as good as gold, just no trouble at all, but you have to let go, I suppose. X

Yes it would have been October 2000 but like I said I didn't get her directly from Tom Bonner, the riding school got the 2 horses, but they said it was the first and last time they would ever go there and I was told about how the horses were brutally pushed around, and I know they were tethered.

My pony turned out to be a real gem, but she had some trust issues to start with.

Sorry but why try and find out about her back ground now. She's gone to a better place and you gave her lmuch love and attention for 9 years. She will guide the next one your way I'm sure.

I dont know, why?, I just decided, that I would take a shot to see if anyone had ever seen her, and find out about Irish Tom,I suppose its a sort of closure on it, as I always had unanswered questions. As, for guiding me, shes done that already (have 7 others), but she was my angel, and I miss her so so much, cant stand seeing her empty stable. it hurts.
thankyou, any words, are a comfort to me at the min, im upside down.

Tamba, the horses were normally only with him for a week, then if not sold they moved on, so how lucky were you to have found each other? I think it's pretty unlikely that you will find out about her past, and I would try not to dwell on it, you might even find out sad things bearing in mind where you found her. Be happy that you gave her a wonderful end to her life and she knew she was loved. x

thankyou, yes, I think I probably have to accept that i wont find out what happened to her in her past, or where she came from,
but she was much loved and she knew that. thankyou for posting .

Tamba, her life began with you. Obviously the biggest and best stroke of luck for her and I know how you feel about wanting to know their history, but if people have passed them on and on and from country to country, the chances of them remembering or caring are so very slim. Really they are. Try not to let this upset you - your heart was big enough for all her previous owners and it was you who mattered most to her.

May she rest in peace and big (hugs) to you.

yes, your completely right,
I think Im sort of coming to terms with the fact, that she probably had a rough time of it, but its all over now, and shes at peace, and thanks for the hugs, my oh offshore, so when your on your own, you have too much time to agonise over it.
