What started out as a nice gentle hack this morning ended with one of my horses being in a collision with a car. My daughter and I were riding my two horses when the one my daughter was riding mega spooked causing us both to fall off. The one she was riding bolted out of the woods and ended up on a main road miles away. He was in a collision with a car that thankfully aware that there was a loose horse. The car is a write off and the horse was in a bit of a mess and is currently in horsepital. Due to the quick thinking of some fellow liveries that were passing they were able to stem the flow of blood meaning his prognosis is good. A big thank you to the police who were absolutely wonderful. Also to the whole of my yard who dropped everything and came to help. We can never thank them all enough.

How is the driver? Are they in one piece?

Hope horse recovers soon and doesn't have traffic problems after this.

The driver and her 14 year old passenger were both extremely shaken but unharmed. Thankfully a motorcyclist was able to alert oncoming traffic so the car was stationary at the time of impact.

The horse is badly lacerated, has big holes in both knees but thankfully no internal injuries or broken bones. The vet said he is one very lucky boy and the quick thinking of those first on the scene (friends of mine) meant blood loss was kept to a minimum. Also the fact that the horse is unshod meant the situation was not worse. Had he been shod the vet is certain there would have been fatalities :(
