We have a horse in the yard on livery who eats , drinks and passes droppings normally but in between time constantly has liquid droppings running out of him, he can stand in the yard being groomed and there is a puddle of brown water where he has stood, his tail and back legs are always covered in it to the point it is making him sore.
The owner has wormed him.
He was out at grass during the day but we thought it might be the very wet grass causing it so we have put him in 24/7 for two weeks ( other than daily exercise) to rule this out, he is still like it.
He is on and lib dry hay and feed wise he has chaff, beet and a feed balancer, he has always been on the chaff and beet but the balancer is a new addition. She contacted the balancer producer who said this has never been reported before. She has taken him off it but he is still bad.

This is a horse who always looks a bit ropey, he has a coconut hair type coat which rubs easily and despite plenty of correct work still doesn't build up top line.

He is also a very nappy horse.

He was in very poor condition when he arrived 18 months ago.
I think this is all connected.
My initial thought is either ulcers, allergy or a lack of protein absorbtion but would appreciate any other ideas.
The vet is booked for Thursday.

Maybe worm him or get a worm count done, discuss with vet and alternatively ( as i did with an old tb of mine) add a big tbsp of natural yogurt to his tea for a good few weeks to help his guts balance again...otherwise, stumped...btw it worked with my tb, he was a hatrack and poor condition when we got him, added thirds (winter only) to his alfa a oil chop and spillers balancer, and micronised linseed, he was a different horse after few months ( plus long and low schooling)..

Agree with Micky - get a worm count done and speak with your vet. In the meantime I would try a good feed balancer (Protexin is one it has probiotics and prebriotics). Or, try Yea-sac and Brewers Yeast which will work out cheaper. My horse was like this and I treated him with Protexin which helped but it took me a while to realise that it was actually the hay that was causing it. It looked good and smelt good but there was something in it that disagreed with his belly. As soon as we got a new batch of hay the problem disappeared. Maybe you could try some different hay to see if there is any improvement.

can you cut out the sugarbeet maybe that is just too much moisture in his system. agree with worm counts to be sure, you can then target worm as well depending on the type, agree a prebiotic, poor boy, clean legs thoroughly and plaster vaseline where he splaters this will stop the liquid sticking to the legs and making them sore, also vaseline around his bum and cheeks until this is sorted.

Vet has been . he thinks its a combination of worm damage as a young horse and over sensitive gut, he has said to leave the feed as it is and has put him on pro biotics and steroids and advised to double dose panacur guard and then tape worm two weeks later. If no better he will be scoped, thanks for suggestion s:-)

Things you might try .
Charcoal but not when drugs or wormers are being given .
Protexin is my pro /prebiotic of choice .
One of the products with clay in ( NAF haylage balancers is one )
However I would think you will end up scoping it does not sound good .
In old day I have seen stud grooms feed dry bran for this issue .

My horse had this was IBS used pre pro biotic from the vets. Also my god cant remember the name but worked a treat , brown paste in white tube was syringed in like a wormer couple knotchs as and when needed brilliant stuff. If you need the name i will find out for you.Use when needed returns droppings to normal straight away.Or you can mix in with feed it is of vet very pa
latable.Your horse sounds just same as mine anything sets them of.I would be very carefull with steroids can cause problems elsewhere. But your vet knows best.best wishes
