Hi All,

I am buying my first horse and need some advise.

Where's the best place to get horse insurance from, I will also be insuring a horse box so if anyone knows of an insurance that provides a combined insurance deal that would be great

I will also be having a loaner which is my friend, does she need to get Public Liability Insurance or do I, or does this come included in the horse's insurance?

Any help is appreciated :D

Thanks,
Kelly

would go to one of the big insurers like pet plan Nfu shearwater seib for horse insurance and lorry insurance. dont think they do combined insurance as one is horse insurance and one is motor insurance but you might get a deal or discount if you ask! is your loanee paying towards horse? then yes i would think she will need her own liability if there is ANY form of financial benefit to you. she can get good cover from BHS gold, but wouldnt cover her towards vets fees.

We use SEIB and can highly reccommend them. They insure both the horse and the trailer; we get a multi product discount from them. They're a broker so they can arrange insurance for anything. If you're getting quotes be cautious about E&L - they are cheap but have a very poor reputation.

Your loaner doesn't need to get any additional insurance - unless she wants to get rider only for herself. Legally as the owner you are responsible for any third party claims even if you weren't with the horse at the time. You might want to ask her to split the cost though.
