Help!

Looking for recommendations, Find NFU very expensive at £55/month excluding tack for a 17 year old horse that now only hacks and does occassional local show.

Not sure i want to put on a veteran policy just yet as think thats quite restrictive and he certainaly doesnt act or look his age and (touch wood) has never been ill/injured so i would consider surgery if required.

Who do you use?How quickly do they pay up/how helpful are they.

Sorry i cant remember if i have posted a similar thread!!!

I'm with AmTrust, haven't needed them yet but I've heard good things. I pay £20-something a month inc tack for a 9y/o TB to cover riding club activities. I think they were second cheapest (I went on the H&H insurance comparison) after the company that I was told to avoid, but because I can't remember with certainty which one that is, I can't say who!

Surely you'd have to go on a veteran policy- 17 is into the "veteran" category for insurance isn't it?

I use Pet Plan and take out their high excess policy (£500). The difference in the premiums pretty much covers the extra excess and I've always found Pet Plan to be excellent in paying out any claims.
You can play around with quotes on-line to see which suits you as well. I've just insured a 6yr horse for £2250 to cover me up to eventing low level and the premiums are less than £30pm.

if you insure with petplan before horse is 19 they will cover for injury and illness until horse is 25 :) may be more expensive but you get what you for nowadays

Ok thanks When I have a spare few hours!!!! I will ring round a few companies I tried getting a quote online today with carriage house but when I put his age in it said someone wil contact me!! I know he is classed as a veteran but it slightly annoys me that automatically it changes the insurance because he has never been sick or injured (touch wood) in his life :-(

Another vote for petplan! My15yo tb is with them, she has had 2 claims in the last 2 years, both of which were paid within days with no issues (each claim over 1k) tack is also covered. I pay about £40 per month.

Pet plan was very good with my veteran who needed colic surgery a few years ago and they also paid out the full value insured on death. I am now with NFU and they are expensive but I have found them good to deal with for vets fees claims and have paid up quickly for the vets fees and travel expenses.

friends of animals just paid out on two seperate claims for nearly 8,000 one of claims I had had cover for one day ,been fabulous :)

KBIS or SEIB. KBIS took over my horse's cover after NFU hiked up my premium and put on a whole load of exclusions, so much for loyalty bonus, I've been with them for over 10 years! KBIS quoted £100 cheaper, had a better vet plan (pay out more for colic op if needed, hopefully not but atleast I know it will be covered) and took off the silly exclusions.
